Code of Conduct
Welcome to our community. These guidelines help us create a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.
Respect
- Everyone in our community deserves respect, regardless of their background, beliefs, or identity.
- Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. This includes race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political views, or physical and mental abilities.
- Please respect your partner’s preferred dance role. If you are unsure whether someone wants to lead or follow, simply ask.
- Brazilian Zouk often involves close embrace. Be aware of body language, both yours and your partner’s, and respect personal boundaries.
- If something feels uncomfortable and body language is not enough to communicate this, please speak up. You can stop and step away from a dance at any point.
- If you sense your partner may not be comfortable, a gentle check-in is always appreciated.
Consent
- Always invite your partner to dance. Pulling, pressuring, or coercing someone onto the floor is not acceptable.
- If someone declines a dance, please respect their decision. If you decline, you do not need to give a reason.
- Romantic or intimate activities require verbal consent and should be kept off the dance floor.
- If you experience or witness inappropriate behaviour, please report it to a staff member as soon as possible. You may remain anonymous if you prefer.
- Please do not offer unsolicited teaching or feedback during workshops or social dancing. Workshops are for learning from the instructors, and socials are for enjoying the dance.
Safety
- Be mindful of the space around you and protect your partner from collisions.
- Before filming or photographing other dancers, please ask for their consent before posting on social media.
Environment
- We encourage the use of reusable water bottles. Filtered water is available for refills.
- Please look out for each other’s belongings. If you find a lost item, hand it to a staff member.
Hygiene
- Partner dancing means close contact. Please shower regularly, use deodorant, keep mints or gum handy, and consider bringing a spare shirt if needed.
- Good hygiene makes dancing more enjoyable for everyone.
If you witness any situation where this Code of Conduct is being broken, please speak with a staff member or volunteer.
Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming community.
